Khajuraho
Khajuraho is known to the world for its temples, architecture and
sculpture. Located in the provincial state of Madhya Pradesh India., the
construction of these Khajuraho Temples are thousand years old. The 85
temples are believed to be built between 9th and 12 the century, of which 20
have survived. Many of the temples are in splendid condition, but some of
them have given way to the ravages of time and nature. The eceptionally
exemplary sculpture of Khajuraho continues to remain a mystery. Though it is
certain that we will never know the mystery of Khajuraho, the world
continues to search the records of its existence, the purpose for the
building of these temples. Despite of all this, Khajuraho will continue to
draw travellers and art lovers from all over the world, as it has done ever
since its revival.

Khajuraho has an airport that links it with Delhi, Agra, Varanasi and
Kathmandu. The nearest railheads are Mahoba, Harpalpur, Jhansi and Satna.

The timeless temples of Khajuraho, we see today have a unity of structure.
The shapely sculptures appear to be heavenly and lively. The main focus is
on woman and varying facets of her life. All the temples features Ardha
Mandapa, the entrance, Mandapa, the assembly hall, Garbhagriha and sanctum
sanctorum. The temples are in groups in the west, east and the south, having
the entrance in their eastern side.

evolved example of central Indian temple architecture.
Eastern Group of Temples :
The Eastern Group of Temples are mostly dedicated to Gods & Goddesses.
Built of sandstone, granite and other types of stones with large and small
statues of Gods. The temple in this group are - The temple of Parsvanath,
Shantinath, the temple of Brahma and Hanuman, the temple of Ghantai.
The Southern Group :
The southern group only has two temples, the Duladeo which is new to the
other groups and built when the creativity of Khajuraho was declining. The
Chaturbhuja Temple has a 3-m-high statue of Vishnu.
Fairs & Festivals
The Khajuraho Dance Festival is the biggest, most colourful and interesting
fairs anywhere in the world. Every year in March, these splendid temples
come alive during the week-long festival of classical dances.
